Here is number 183…
Young males were calling each other out, gathering in small flocks, bachelors for the year. Older males, seasoned and much more aggressive, gathered on top of fluff of cattails. They meant business, with territorial rights being taken seriously. Once the young hatch, the males become insanely defensive. If you don’t believe me, try getting near a nest. You’ll most likely receive a beating from a male red-winged blackbird, on guard and all business.
